Biography

Professor Brendon Noble is an entrepreneur, economic development specialist and medicines development / biotechnologist scientist.  

Academically he has been working in the field of medicines and therapy development since 1988. He developed his work in the Medical School at Cambridge University where he jointly held a Medical Research Council (MRC) Programme grant in the MRC Bone Group and moved to become Professor of Regenerative Medicine at the University of Edinburgh where he directed the Bone and Cartilage Repair Programme in the Medical Research Council “Centre for Regenerative Medicine” of which he was a founding member.  He worked with ground- breaking therapy companies in Silicon Valley and with Scottish government on economic development.

Professor Noble has co-founded biotech therapy companies and has patented in the therapy field. He is familiar with the complexities and challenges associated with new therapy production for clinical use including regulatory affairs, quality assurance and fund-raising.  He is an adviser to international health projects.

In addition, he has served on vision groups for a range of companies, innovation parks and incubators (including Board member for BT’s “Innovation Martlesham”), member of the Novartis Futures Board, Chair of the Life Sciences Sector Group of the New Anglia Enterprise Partnership (LEP), Universities Representative on the Heart of the South West Local Enterprise Partnership European Structural Investment Fund Group, a member of the Academic Health Sciences and member of the UK Innovation Council. 

He is Chair of the Frozen Ark Project, Chief Scientist at the UK Stem Cell Foundation and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Biology, the Royal Society of Arts and Director of the Institute for Innovation & Knowledge Exchange (IKE). 

His research work has been funded by the Medical Research Council, the Royal Society of Edinburgh, the European Union, EPSRC, Royal Academy England, Research into Ageing, Innovate UK, Arthritis Research Campaign, the Chief Scientists Office, the UK Stem Cell Foundation and he has collaborated with companies such as Mclaren Technologies, Pfizer, Apatech, Smith & Nephew, Novartis, Geron Corporation and others.

He has held and continues to hold academic leadership roles such as Pro-Vice Chancellor and Head of School, is Director of the Institute for Healthy Urban Living and has published over 80 peer reviewed works.
